Five-Letter Word Finder
How the Word Finder works
The Finder searches 14,855 five-letter words in the Wordle guess list. 2,358 are marked as possible answers; the rest can still help you test letters.
What gray really means
Gray feedback is copy-specific when a guess repeats a letter. Play EERIE against STEAM: one E is yellow and the other E tiles are gray because the answer has only one E. Enter the yellow E at the position where it appeared, but do not add E to Doesn't contain; that would remove the answer. Try the repeated-letter examples to check a row first.
Opening information for this filter
The sidebar shows the highest-entropy matching test word, with its information value in bits. This is an opening-information comparison, not a definitive next guess: it does not account for every constraint, Hard Mode legality, or the chance to win immediately. See The Math for the definition.
Hide words ending in S
This option applies a simple spelling filter: it removes every match ending in S. It does not determine whether a word is a plural or a possible answer.
Common questions
14,855 words are in the Wordle guess list and 2,358 are marked as possible answers. The Finder searches the larger list and labels the two groups separately.
Check two things: whether a gray copy of a repeated letter also appears as green or yellow (see "What gray really means" above), and whether a yellow letter was entered on the right tile. Yellow means "the letter is in the word, just not here," so the column matters. The Finder treats yellow positionally to keep this case correct.
No. The list updates as you type, so you can see how much each added clue narrows the matches.
