Why I built it

After playing Wordle for a while, I kept wondering why one guess worked better than another. Was it better to try a likely answer, or use a word that tested more letters? How much did a repeated letter really hurt?

This site is my way of answering those questions properly. The Solver helps with a live game, Practice lets you try ideas without waiting for tomorrow, and the Finder and word pages make the underlying word list easier to explore.

How the figures are made

The tools compare each guess with the solver's possible answers and group them by the feedback they would produce. That makes it possible to estimate how many words a guess tends to leave and how often it avoids a difficult branch.

There is no single perfect score for a Wordle guess, so I show the useful trade-offs instead of pretending there is one universal answer. The Math explains the measures, and the data page records the inputs and limits.

Definitions and corrections

Definitions, pronunciations and etymologies are sourced from Wiktionary and link back to the original entry. If a definition, answer status or calculation looks wrong, please tell me—I would much rather fix it than leave it sitting on the site.
