How each number is computed

True average. Total guesses across solved games divided by solved games. Fails are excluded from the average -- the same scope the site's simulation data uses -- and reported separately, because averaging an X as a 7 would invent a number Wordle never records.

Percentile. Your average is compared against each published result cell of the Observatory's site-wide distribution: games that took more guesses than your average count as beaten, fails count as beaten by any solve, and games at exactly your average count half. The result is a percentile of individual contributed games, not of players -- player averages cluster tighter than single games, so this is the humbler comparison. Cells below the sample threshold of 10 games are excluded because the Observatory never publishes them, and the page says how many games the comparison actually covers.

Streak odds. Your fail rate is fails divided by total games. When you have recorded no fails the true rate is not zero just because the sample missed it, so the page uses the standard rule-of-three bound instead: with G games and no fails, a 95% upper bound on the fail rate is 3/G, and the survival odds shown are the floor implied by that bound.

What is the average Wordle score?
This site quotes a crowd average only from its opt-in Observatory sample, and only once at least 10 games have been contributed. Below that threshold the average stays unpublished rather than borrowed from a source that cannot be verified. For scale, the site's solver benchmark -- SLANT played with one fixed continuation policy over 2,360 simulated answers -- averages 3.4547 guesses. Treat that as a practical ceiling for consistent play, not a typical human score.
What is a good Wordle score?
Averages need context: a lone 3 is common, but holding an average near 3.4547 would match the site's solver benchmark, which no player sustains by hand. A personal average in the high threes over many games is strong. For keeping a streak, the count that matters most is fails, not average: a 6 and a 2 both keep a streak alive, while one X ends it.
How does this calculator work out my percentile?
It compares your average against every individual game result published from the site's opt-in Observatory sample: the share of contributed games that took more guesses than your average (counting fails as worse than any solve) puts you in the top slice of that sample. It is a percentile of contributed games, not of all Wordle players -- the sample is self-selected, and results in cells below the privacy threshold are excluded because they are never published.
How likely is my Wordle streak to survive?
If your fail rate is p (fails divided by games played), the chance a streak survives N more days is (1 - p) multiplied by itself N times. That closed form assumes each day is an independent try at your current skill level, which understates risk on unusually hard puzzles and ignores improvement -- read it as an estimate, not a promise.
