Why the colours matter

The best second guess depends on the exact row

A strong opener can lead to very different shortlists. Sometimes the best move is a possible answer; sometimes a word that tests several awkward letters will narrow the branch faster.

How the ranking works

Normal Mode may use a guess that cannot win immediately if it separates the remaining words better. Hard Mode keeps every green in place and reuses every yellow.

“Average left” is the average number of possible answers after the move. The worst case is the largest group it can leave. The tool checks 14,855 accepted guesses against 2,359 possible answers, treating each answer as equally likely.
