Read the punctuation
Original FiveLetterWords practice. This is separate from the publisher's daily puzzle.
Inspect the characters as written. The four groups use punctuation or digits, independently of color, font shape or word meaning. Spoken button labels name punctuation explicitly so the same task is available with a screen reader.
Select four entries to check a group.

Worked solution
Contain one hyphen-minus
RE-DO · CO-OP · X-RAY · T-SHIRT
Each entry contains one ordinary hyphen-minus character (-). Its position and the meaning of the surrounding letters do not matter.
Contain one apostrophe
CAN'T · WON'T · DON'T · ISN'T
Each entry contains one apostrophe. The test concerns the written character, not the sound of the contraction.
Contain one digit
A1 · B2 · C3 · D4
Each original label contains one decimal digit, after its letter. No external code or ranking is intended.
Contain one ampersand
P&Q · L&R · J&K · M&N
Each original label contains one ampersand (&). These are invented teaching labels, not claims about organizations or brands.
Ambiguity and review notes
Code checks every entry against all four declared features and requires exactly one match. Original labels are not real organizational abbreviations. Spoken labels expose only the visible characters and do not name a group; color and typography are unnecessary.
