Visual or typographic mechanisms in Connections
Describe the visible feature; image labels may themselves be spoilers.
How to test the relationship
Describe the visible feature in words and check each character exactly. Distinguish punctuation from font decoration and do not rely on color alone. Provide an equivalent spoken description; if a feature changes with font or layout, disclose that dependence.
Worked original example 1

Worked original example 2
CAN'T, DON'T, ISN'T each contain exactly 1 "'" character(s). Count the actual characters; their color, font and meaning do not affect this result.
Worked original example 3
A1, B2, C3 each contain exactly 1 decimal digit character(s). Count the actual characters; their color, font and meaning do not affect this result.
When a tempting match falls short
RE—DO does not contain the ordinary hyphen-minus character '-'. Its long dash is a different character. A similar-looking mark cannot pass an exact-character test.
