Yes, Wordle answers repeat. The archive contains 18 repeated words, so a previous appearance is not enough to rule out an answer. It also contains 6 answers whose only conventional vowel is Y, while repeated letters appear in 31% of the distinct words.

Those patterns favour common letters early, but the feedback on your board always matters more than the archive average.

How we tested this

The counts cover 1,858 completed puzzles and 1,840 distinct answer words from 19 June 2021 to 20 July 2026. Repeat gaps use the first and latest recorded dates. “No A, E, I, O or U” treats Y separately.

Repeats, no-AEIOU answers and repeated letters

CIGAR opened the archive on 19 June 2021 and returned on 2 February 2026. BREAK appeared on 8 December 2021 and again on 12 June 2026; AWAKE, AGREE and BRING have also repeated. In the recorded period, 18 words recur and no word appears more than twice.

The no-AEIOU list is short: CRYPT, GLYPH, MYRRH, NYMPH, SHYLY and TRYST. All 6 use Y as a vowel. Repeated letters are much more common, occurring in 573 answers, or 31% of the distinct-word set. J appears 21 times, Q 27, X 32 and Z 36 times; 94% of answers contain none of the four.

What it means for solving

The archive supports two modest strategy conclusions. First, include vowels in an early guess, but combine them with common consonants rather than spending four slots on vowels alone. Second, do not devote an early turn to J, Q, X or Z without a clue pointing that way; 94% of these answers contain none of them.

A past-answer list also needs care. It is useful history, but repeats show that it cannot serve as a definitive elimination list.
